Young Atlanta: Mark and the Kamikaze Team

After a bit of a hiatus, my Young Atlanta project is back! For this round, we're starting with Mark Ziemer, a fellow SCAD alumni who I met through the Out 2 Launch showcase. He took part in the same program the year before, and ended up as the Creative Services Art Director at Atlanta Magazine. I'm a bit biased in thinking he's awesome since he hired me to shoot some portraits for their Top Docs issue. You can see his work not only in Atlanta Magazine, but also in their new travel publication Southbound and other projects like the 2013 Atlanta Celebrates Photography Festival Guide. Did I mention that he's funny and really, really nice?

Next up we've got an entire team of creatives. Alan, Carrie, and Havana are the force behind Kamikaze, an adult animated sci-fi drama, as well as being good people. There's also a unofficial Corgi team member named Sketch spreading his cuteness all over the studio. The amount of talent and devotion put into this project absolutely blew me away. There's a bit of the characters visible on the walls here, but you seriously have to go look at their website and Facebook page. The art is INSANE. They're currently pitching the project and getting really exciting feedback, so go support them and get on the bandwagon early.

Wednesday Wrap-Up Vol. 4

Happy Wednesday again! It's fun that the week is almost over again thanks to a lazy Monday. Even more exciting, I just booked my trip to Brazil! I'll be gone from the 22nd to the 6th, and I can't waaaiiittt. It'll be my first real international trip, my first time flying alone, all kinds of big things. I have about 3 weeks to pick up some Portuguese!

Besides the trip, I've had a few other fun things on my radar. First up we've got 40 Days of Dating, a project by designers Jessica Walsh and Timothy Goodman. Two close friends agree to date each other for 40 days to figure out their various love problems, and they write about their frustrating, adorable, confusing, romantic daily experiences. Today is day 38 of the posts, so you're just in time for the finale.

Oh, and here's my new favorite joke: It's hard to explain puns to kleptomaniacs because they take things literally. Ha. Haha.

In other, less cheesy news, today is my first day as an intern at Fay Gold Gallery in west midtown. Fay is seriously amazing: her original gallery (from 1980-2009) put Atlanta on the art world map. Now in her 80s, she's back with a more maverick approach and I'm so excited to be a part of her new adventures!

After meeting with Fay and her team on Friday, I stopped by Big Studio to visit everyone there. I had the pleasure of having lunch with Marcie, who is one of the sweetest women I know, and checking out our new neighbor. Stationside opened a couple of months ago as an extension of Terminal West at King Plow, a much needed food spot in the midst of all the other businesses in the center. Their menu has a mouth-watering selection of mostly local, house-made goodies, ranging from tempura avocado to pb&j french toast. I sampled the adobo tots and the smoked tofu BLT, which was deliciously messy. Seriously, the fact that my white dress survived that lunch is nothing short of a miracle, but I'd gladly wear an apron next time so I can enjoy the sandwich without worry. If "tofu bacon" is too scary for you, I also heard rave reviews about their ham and cheese sandwich.

I'd like to add a Braves win to my list of favorite things this week, but they happened to lose miserably on Sunday. But I did get to tailgate in a lightning storm with Neil and my family before the game, and I got this sweet free hat. Be sure to come back next week for new photos from a project I'm starting, and y'all have a great weekend!

Hey, Kitty

Since graduation I've been trying to catch up on sleep in between running around and losing more of it. And I turned 22, which I believe puts me officially into the category of "Young Adult." I've taken a couple of trips with family and friends that I can't wait to show you some photos of, but first here's a fashion shoot that I've kept hidden for a little while.

Melanie here is an absolutely phenomenal model who happens to be a very good friend of a very good friend. When she came to visit Atlanta she helped make an off-the-cuff shoot into one of my favorites. She also got to join in on some Buckhead mayhem and other SCAD fun.

Like what you see? Get in touch with me to work together on look books, portfolio building, editorials, etc!

DEAL WITH IT: Exhibition this Thursday!

I am so, so excited to share my work and that of my classmates with our friends, family, and the rest of ATL this Thursday at Deal With It: A Photo-Based Exhibition. The show is one night only, May 30th from 7-10 pm at Big Studio in King Plow Arts Center. We'll have work ranging from video installations, to sculptures, to antique photo processes, and so much more. There will be work on sale as well as prints available, tasty snacks, a photo booth, and a kickass party to celebrate the end of our undergrad careers. We even have a billboard on 85-S coming into the city! Get more info and RSVP to the Facebook event page. You can also use #dealwithitatl to see posts from the other artists and tag your own photos and tweets about the show.

Model Test: Becca

I had the pleasure a while back of putting together a huge test with new faces from Factor Women, a lovely agency here in Atlanta. 6 models, 2 photographers, 1 MUA, 1 wardrobe stylist, 1 photo assistant, 6 moms, 13 hours, 35 looks, and a bajillion photos taken. No really, I took over 1,400 photos.

Photographers: Brittany Wages and Stephen Archer. Photo Assistant: Brejon Wylie. MUA: Anya Mathis. Stylist: Shreya Sen. Location: Big Studio.

I can't say enough about how absolutely awesome our team was, we couldn't have pulled off such a massive undertaking without them. The girls at Factor were amazing, too: every single girl was friendly, professional, and photographed so well. To start off the blog posts from the day, here's my photos of Becca!

I wish I could have had a quarter of her confidence in high school. She has a crazy cool wardrobe (stilettos, checkered jeans, mismatched neon socks), and was so excited to MOVE. It was hard to keep up with shooting her before she moved on to the next great pose. At one point she decided to lay upside down in a chair and still kept working her face. She was an absolute joy to work with.
