Wednesday Wrap-Up Vol. 2

It's Wednesday again! This past weekend was packed full of camera-carrying fun: shooting a swanky event for UrbanDaddy, artsy parties for the Living Walls Conference, a going away party for a lovely client and friend, testing with Livi of CW Model Management and IMG, and assisting on a look book shoot for Laurel Newport with Stephen Archer.

Accidental matching seems to be a recurring thing for me.

Since I shot several events, my favorite thing this week is my new DIY Flash Diffuser. I was looking into the overpriced tupperware made by Gary Fong and loved by event photographers everywhere, but then I found this. It's actually made from a shelf liner found at Ikea for $4. It works like a charm, looks no more ridiculous than the real thing, and rolls up neatly to fit into my camera bag. I tested it out at the UrbanDaddy event at Briza where guests received a card that they swiped against a tablet held by my assistant to immediately download their photos. Woooo technology!

My second favorite thing this week is technically something I found a few weeks ago, but I've been thinking on it lately. Writer George Saunders delivered this speech to the class of 2013 at Syracuse University. He talks about all the forces preventing us from acting in kindness and why you should overcome them.

So here’s something I know to be true, although it’s a little corny, and I don’t quite know what to do with it:

What I regret most in my life are failures of kindness.

Those moments when another human being was there, in front of me, suffering, and I responded…sensibly. Reservedly. Mildly.
— George Saunders

On a less serious note, does anyone else love TV commercial music as much as I do? I first heard "Problem" by Natalia Kills on one of those shoe website ads, and now it plays on repeat when I'm working out. Obvious runner up for favorite song of the week is Gaga's new single, Applause. (Explicit version of the song posted here, so you might want to put in headphones before rocking out at work)

Finally, one of my favorite people and clients: Kathleen, Yelp Atlanta's now-former Community Manager. She's introduced me to so many fabulous people and some great cocktails, and makes me wish I was a redhead. If you see her around the city, you can follow her trail of sequins to see the best restaurants, events, and bars that Atlanta has to offer.
